The Canadian Alphabet

Today Casey and I were discussing the letters of the alphabet and we were talking about letters with the "ee" sound. We got to "zee" and I said, "unless you're in Canada, and then it would be "zed". Casey thought for a minute and said, "they don't know the letter "z"?" I said, yes, they know it but they call it "zed", to which he said, "because they just don't know that much in Canada, do they?"

Casey has been taking swimming lessons every day this week. Today was a sort of game day and after playing around for most of the lesson, at the very end they were taken to the diving board in the deep end. Probably 50% of the kids were scared of jumping off and needed to be lowered in by the instructor. The other 49% jumped in with varying degrees of confidence. Casey was in a league all his own. He ran down the length of the board, sprang in to the air, did a somersault, and splashed in. I was absolutely shocked. He's never jumped off a diving board that I know of, except at the neighbor's house where he has always worn his flotation vest. It was pretty impressive.
