There are a few of you out there that will appreciate Casey's love for the song Too Much Time On My Hands. He likes that "It is all electrickety." This a great Styx song. I think this is Casey's way of telling us that he needs more chores. Since he liked that one we decided to introduce him to Mr. Roboto, knowing he would be all over it.

To say that Casey loves his teacher would be something of an understatement, so he was thrilled to have the opportunity to be in the classroom and show us all the things they're doing. Mr. Andrews told the kids they'd get a surprise if they looked snappy, and of course Casey was happy to oblige.

At our community Christmas party this week-end Casey was chosen to be in the magic show. It was very funny and when he went to stick the sword through Casey's neck I thought Abby would have a heart attack. She was moaning, "no, no, no" and looked absolutely horrified. You can see the back of her head in the top pick, and she is just shrinking away from the awful sight.

Dear mom and dad,

This week we had a tornado and fire drill, and a bus evac. drill. When then alarm rang we went down the stairs for the tornato drill. They made us go to the office hallway and tuck are arms around are neck. After about two minuets we got to take arms of our neck, then we got to ask questions. Three more minuets and they let us go upstairs. The next day they made us do the fire drill. Same thing happened, the alarm rang and we went downstairs. But something different happend we went outside, when we got outside we just stood there, about fifteen miuets. Later we went up stairs and we went to work.

Mom and dad tonight can we have pasta for dinner? Do you have any leftover meatballs so we could put in the pasta if you make it? Besides that can I invite Nick B. over?

Dear parents,
this week we earned TGIF! early because we earned TGI with Mrs. Klus so we got TGIF automatically and then we earned the exclamation point on Thursday. We also are going to change TGIF! Beacause of the weather so I don't know what it will be. Football geography is very fun! This week we had our first presentation. We wern't very good at it so well you get it (hopefully), but it was fun. On our break we played football I had a great time

Every Friday Casey's teacher has his students write a letter to their parents. Here is a copy of what Casey wrote with original punctuation, spelling, and grammar (I plan to post these throughout the year -I can't find his first one):

Dear mom and dad,

this week at school we are having a rough time earning TGIF! so far we have TGIF and 111 points, it's really bad! but before the we lost the G and we got it today. But it's 2:05 and we need 7 points! Mr. Viaras class only has TGIF. I cannot think of anything else to say so I'll say I got 1 word wrong on my spelling test is all. so I'll start my personal letter.

I was wondering if "Danny" could come over? Then could "Nick" have a sleep over. After Nick comes could me and Nick have ice cream? Bye

Casey Heads Back for Grade Four

This morning I went into the bathroom to find Casey forming his hair into a Mohawk. I quickly put the kibosh on that and proceeded to comb his hair for him. Luckily Casey was able to get over it pretty fast and was still happy to be headed off to school for fourth grade.

Sleepover Hangover

Rohan and Casey had a sleepover at the neighbors home Saturday night. Before they left we told them they needed to get to bed at a reasonable hour, and if they were too tired the next day to stay awake through church, it would be their last Saturday night sleepover. Sunday morning Casey came staggering home and after getting ready for church managed to instantly fall asleep on the piano bench. He was completely out of it with body twitching and all. Casey is proud of the fact that he and his friend managed to stay up the entire night.

Once we got to church he managed to sleep through the entire sacrament meeting service. During primary (a time for the kids) one of the women told us that Casey was completely out of it too. She said they would ask him questions and he would mumble out these completely incoherent answers. She said is was very entertaining and the most fun she has had in primary.

Now that it is Monday, we are starting to get our cheerful and pleasant Casey back.

Division Tables

Casey is learning math through a program called ALEKS. Currently Casey is in grade 3 but is working to complete the grade 4 curriculum. Casey is very methodical in his approach to math. He likes to think things over and is not the type to quickly speed through a problem. Once he works through something it really sticks in his mind. Recently a feature was added to ALEKS that allows students to work on multiplication and division tables. Casey decided to tackle the division tables first because he says they are easier. The way the program works requires the student to provide answers in rapid succession and if you don't answer quickly it stops you and quickly reviews the element of the table that you didn't answer fast enough. It has been fun to watch Casey as he has been able to adjust to answering the questions proficiently without the time running out. This program requires you to answer fast and Casey caught on really quick.

Spring Soccer

Casey is playing spring soccer at the moment. It is the beginning of the season and we have only had a few practices up to this point. A month or so ago I received a call from the athletic association asking me if I would be willing to coach and I agreed to do so. I immediately turned to Amazon.com and ordered The Baffled Parent's Guide to Coaching Youth Soccer. The book has been a life saver for me and helped me to organize some reasonably good practices.

It has been very fun to coach Casey along with another experienced coach. Rohan has been serving as our assistant coach. Most of the boys go to school together and they are very enthusiastic about playing together. Casey is a strong player and has boundless energy and runs all over the field without tiring. It is fun to witness his great athleticism. At the last practice we had a scrimmage at the end and split the boys into two teams. Because we had an odd number of boys we used Rohan as an extra player. Only two goals were scored during the scrimmage - the first was scored by Rohan to the chagrin of Casey who shortly overcame this by scoring a goal of his own.
