Crunching the Numbers

I have been dutifully saving every single reciept for the month of November because I was curious as to how much I was spending, and more importantly how much I was saving using coupons, etc. So Mike just input all the data from the many, many receipts (92 in all) and here are the numbers:

Total cash out of pocket: $221.13

Total savings: $1,375.64

Total number of items purchased: 575

Average cost per item: $0.38

Now this is not just grocery items, but also includes diapers, cleaning suppies, cat food, personal hygeine items, paper goods, etc...

We are pretty amazed that we only spent about $55 a week, but (literally) bought a ton of stuff. I think that next month I could get away with only buying perishable items, we have so much food storage now. But something tells me there will be some deals out there too good to pass up! We've always been told not to go into debt to acquire food storage, or do it all at once, and I feel like this month we bought at least 2 months worth of food for much less than what we would normally spend on one month. Combined with what we already have I think we could probably go 6 months. It's pretty exciting, and we're just getting started.
