Solveig's Sanctuary

Solveig is derived from the Old Norse elements sól "sun" and veig "strength". Solveig is a central character in the play Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen and she sings the famous "Solveig's Song." Cecilie had been thinking about the name Solveig when Mike approached her with the same name. Mike had listened to Ibsen's "Solveig's Song" on the train ride home and felt that this would be the perfect Norwegian name if we had a girl.

Solveig's Latest Thing

For the past while Solveig has had quite the obsession with peeling the paper wrapper off of all the crayons. It seems like we have an endless supply of crayons and everywhere you go in the house little bits of the paper can be found. She will sit in one spot with a pile of crayons and dutifully peel them for long periods of time. She seems to get more satisfaction out of peeling crayons rather than coloring with them. At least she isn't using the crayons to write all over the walls.
